What Is Pixel Blaster

Pixel Blaster puts you in control of a glowing neon spaceship at the bottom of the screen. Enemies come flying down from the top in waves, and your job is to shoot them all before they reach you or before their bullets hit you. The ship fires automatically so you never have to worry about tapping to shoot. Your only focus is moving left and right to dodge enemy bullets and stay alive as long as possible.

The game gets harder with every wave. Early waves are manageable and give you a chance to get comfortable. As you push further, enemies move faster, shoot more often, and come in larger formations. Then every fifth wave, the music changes and something big drops in from the top of the screen. That is your boss fight, and it is not forgiving.

There is no ending to Pixel Blaster. The waves keep coming as long as you can stay alive. Your score is saved in your browser so every time you come back you can try to beat your personal best.

How to Play

The controls are about as simple as it gets. On a computer, just move your mouse left or right and your ship follows your cursor. On a phone or tablet, press and drag your finger across the screen and the ship moves with your touch. Your ship fires automatically without you doing anything extra. There are no complicated button combinations and no tricky mechanics to learn. You move, you dodge, and you survive.

The goal is to clear each wave by destroying all the enemies before they pass you or kill you. You have three lives shown at the top right of the screen. Lose all three and the game ends. Your final score and your best ever score are both shown on the game over screen.

The Four Enemy Types

One of the things we are most proud of in Pixel Blaster is that the enemies actually behave differently from each other. You cannot use the same strategy against every enemy. Here is a breakdown of what you will face.

The Scout

10 Points

The most basic enemy. It flies straight down at you and takes one hit to destroy. Fast and simple but appears in large groups during early waves.

The Zigzagger

25 Points

This one moves in a side to side wave pattern as it descends. It takes two hits and is harder to track. Do not panic and keep your aim steady.

The Gunner

50 Points

This enemy shoots back. It tracks your position and fires aimed bullets directly at you. It has four health points and shows up from wave three onward.

The Tank

80 Points

The toughest regular enemy with seven health points. It bounces side to side and fires spread shots in three directions at once. Has a visible health bar above it.

The mix of enemy types in each wave changes as you progress. In the early waves it is mostly Scouts. By wave five and beyond you will start seeing Gunners and Tanks showing up regularly, which forces you to play more carefully and think about positioning rather than just spraying bullets.

Power-Ups That Actually Matter

When you destroy enemies there is a chance they drop a power-up that floats down toward you. Fly into it to collect it. Each one changes how you play for a limited time and the effect is shown at the top of your screen with a countdown so you always know how long it lasts.

Multi Shot

Your ship fires three bullets at once instead of one. The side bullets shoot at a slight angle so you cover a much wider area. Lasts about six seconds.

Shield

A blue energy shield wraps around your ship and absorbs one hit completely. Extremely valuable during boss fights. Lasts about eight seconds or until hit.

Mega Bomb

Instantly destroys every enemy on the screen the moment you collect it. Also deals heavy damage to the boss if one is active. Rare but incredibly satisfying.

Speed Up

Your bullets fire faster and travel quicker, letting you deal more damage in a shorter time. Great for burning through the Tank enemy’s health bar.

The Boss Battles

Every fifth wave in Pixel Blaster ends with a boss fight instead of a regular enemy wave. The boss slides in from the top of the screen slowly, announcing itself before the real fight begins. It is significantly larger than any regular enemy, has a big health bar displayed at the top, and its attacks cover much more of the screen than anything you faced before.

The boss has two phases. In Phase 1 it slides left and right across the screen firing a spread of bullets downward in a fan pattern. You need to weave between the gaps in its fire while landing as many shots as possible. When you chip its health down below fifty percent, Phase 2 kicks in. At this point the boss gets faster, starts moving in an unpredictable curved path, fires more bullets in each spread, and adds a targeted shot that aims directly at where you are standing. The screen flashes and shows a Phase 2 warning so you know things are about to get harder.

Defeating the boss gives you a large bonus score and the satisfaction of watching a massive explosion fill the screen before the next wave begins.

The Combo System

Pixel Blaster rewards aggression through its combo system. If you destroy multiple enemies in quick succession without pausing, a combo counter appears on screen showing you how many kills you have chained together. The more kills you chain the bigger your combo multiplier. Getting a high combo is the best way to push your score into territory that impresses other players, and it encourages you to play offensively rather than hiding at the edges of the screen.

How the Scoring Works

Different enemies give you different amounts of points when you destroy them. The Scout gives ten points, the Zigzagger gives twenty five, the Gunner gives fifty, the Tank gives eighty, and defeating the boss rewards over one thousand points plus a bonus based on which wave you are on. Your total score is shown at the top left during gameplay and your personal best score is saved automatically in your browser so it persists even after you close the game and come back later.
